Classical Divisions

  • Second Round
    Friday, May 27 – Saturday, May 28

    • Format
      • Only 2 selections are required for the Second Round.
      • Bring a word-processed repertoire list with the singer’s name and the titles and composers of the selections for the judges.
      • Original music is not required.
      • You may bring your own accompanist or use the one provided, but there will be no time to practice with the accompanist beforehand.
      • Practice rooms will be available, but these rooms do not include pianos.
      • You may use the same selections as you did in the First Round.
      • You will have approximately 7 minutes of performance time:
        • One selection of your choice
        • If time remains, a portion of the second selection
    • Other Details
      • Semiformal daytime audition attire is appropriate.
      • Approximately 30-40 singers from each division will advance to the Semifinal Round.
      • This is an open competition; parents, family, and others may sit in on the competition, space permitting.

 

  • Semifinal Round
    Sunday, May 29, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

    • All divisions.
    • Semiformal daytime audition attire is appropriate.
    • You will perform one song selection of your choice in its entirety.
    • The top 3-8 singers in each category and from each division will advance to the Final Round.
    • This is an open competition; parents, family, and others may sit in on the competition, space permitting.

 

  • Final Round Concert
    Sunday, May 29, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

    • All divisions.
    • Formal attire is appropriate for the Final Round Concert.
    • You will perform one song selection of your choice in its entirety—it is recommended to use the same selection from the Semifinal Round.
    • The Final Round Concert is a ticketed event.

 


 

 

Virtually Vocal Musical Theatre Divisions

  • Second Round
    Friday, May 27

    • Format

The Expo

Recruiting Fair
May 27-28
(Free for all Competition participants; no additional registration necessary.)

  • Meet with undergraduate and graduate representatives from premier vocal programs as you find the right school for you. Faculty and admission officers from more than 70 of the top schools in the nation will be at the Expo to help you find the school that fits you the best.
  • Who’s coming?
    • Eastman, New England Conservatory, Boston, UCLA, San Francisco, BYU, Michigan, and dozens of others.

  • Exhibitor Area Open:
    • Friday, May 23; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • Saturday, May 24; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • Note: Some schools may come for just one day, so check the exhibitor area both days to make sure you visit the school of your choice.

Convention Classes

High School, University, and Emerging Professional Classes
May 26-29
(Free for all Competition participants; no additional registration necessary.)

  • Top faculty members from the participating Expo schools and Exhibitors will present more than 50 masterclasses and workshops:
    • Thursday, May 26; 4 – 8 p.m.
    • Friday, May 27; 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    • Saturday, May 28; 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    • Sunday, May 29; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • No pre-registration necessary for the classes; attend as many as you want.
    • Classes are free to attend for competition participants of their correlating division–i.e. High School Division participants receive a free High School Class pass.
    • Students interested in singing in a masterclass should sign up with a specific school in the exhibiting area on Friday or Saturday at the Recruiting Fair. Volunteers will also be selected in classes as time permits.
  • Topics include Successful Auditioning, Nailing Your College Audition, Choosing the Right Repertoire, Healthy Technique, Mental, Musical, and Vocal Preparation, How to Choose the Right School, and more.
